Unai Emery has expressed immense pride in how Aston Villa have represented Birmingham and England throughout the season, regardless of the outcome of the Europa League final. In his final programme notes of the campaign, the Villa manager thanked supporters for their unwavering commitment and called for one last push to secure Champions League qualification.
Final Home Game Against Liverpool
Villa face Liverpool at Villa Park on Tuesday evening in their last home match of the season. A victory would guarantee a top-four finish and a place in next season's Champions League, ahead of the Europa League final against SC Freiburg in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Emery's Message to Supporters
Emery wrote: "Since we kicked off back in August, we have shared many great moments together, along with a few matches that did not go as we would have wished. But I honestly believe the team has risen to the occasion and has always given everything in this sanctuary of world football that is Villa Park."
He added: "These final programme notes are, above all, a message of gratitude to each and every supporter who has stood by us. We do not live in an ivory tower and we understand the difficulty and sacrifice involved in coming to the stadium and supporting us with your energy, your passion and your financial commitment."
"None of it goes unnoticed. THANK YOU ALL ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE STAFF, SQUAD, AND BOARD. We have done everything possible to honour your commitment and to act responsibly in our management of the team."
Representing Birmingham and England
Emery stressed that Villa's campaign has confirmed they are once again a competitive side representing Birmingham with dignity in England and Europe. "Today, it may seem natural for us to fight for European qualification, but it is not. Being one of the chosen clubs in the best league in the world to represent it internationally is not within everyone's reach," he said.
Respect for Liverpool
The Villa boss also welcomed Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his team, acknowledging them as a very competitive and dangerous opponent. "We must play the match in our best version and with your full energy," Emery urged fans.
He concluded: "And don't forget to enjoy the way. We have worked so hard all season, now is the time for one last push. Up the Villa."
