Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has publicly urged West Bromwich Albion to make a move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara when the transfer window reopens in January.
Baggies Face Midfield Reinforcement Opportunity
The recommendation comes as West Brom look to strengthen their squad following a mixed start to the Championship season. Ryan Mason's side currently sit in 17th place in the table after their first 16 fixtures, positioned four points from the play-off places and eleven points above the relegation zone.
Their recent 3-2 defeat away at Coventry City highlighted both positives and concerns, with striker Aune Heggebo scoring twice but midfielder Jayson Molumby receiving a red card during the match at the CBS Arena.
Why Kamara Represents an Ideal Target
Lee Hendrie, who also played for Sheffield United and Derby County during his EFL career, told Football League World that Kamara's current situation at Rennes makes him a perfect candidate for West Brom. The 30-year-old Finland international has struggled for regular playing time in France, making him potentially available in the upcoming transfer window.
"He hasn't really had much time, as in playing time, so no surprise that the likes of Leicester and Ipswich are looking to maybe bring him in," Hendrie stated. "I'm sure there will be a lot more clubs that will be interested in signing him, because of what he brings to a side in that role he carries in midfield."
Hendrie emphasised that January could be a particularly active window for players like Kamara who aren't featuring regularly for their current clubs. He believes the move "would probably suit West Brom, for sure they need players and they need squad depth."
Kamara's Extensive British Football Experience
The Finnish midfielder brings considerable experience from across British football, having begun his career with Southend United before joining Arsenal in 2012. Although he made just one first-team appearance for the Gunners, he subsequently established himself at Dundee United before his successful spell with Rangers.
During his time at Ibrox, Kamara made 193 appearances for the Glasgow club, scoring nine times. His performances earned him a move to Leeds United, where he featured 42 times under Daniel Farke and helped the team reach the Championship play-off final last season, though they ultimately lost to Southampton at Wembley.
With 70 international caps for Finland and proven experience in English and Scottish football, Kamara represents exactly the type of seasoned professional that could strengthen West Brom's midfield options as they seek to improve their league position in the second half of the season.
