Gerrard tipped for Burnley job after 15 months out

Former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is reportedly being lined up to replace Scott Parker as manager at Burnley. The 45-year-old has been out of frontline football for 15 months since leaving Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia and hasn't coached in England since leaving Aston Villa in October 2022.

According to The Sun's Alan Nixon, Gerrard is a frontrunner for an expected vacancy at Turf Moor as Burnley prepare for a return to the Championship. "The respected figure lives in the North West and would jump at the chance of a challenge like Burnley," writes Nixon.

Gerrard has been working as a pundit for TNT Sports recently but has insisted he is "all ears" for the right opportunity to get back in the dugout. "I'm more ready than I have been," the Liverpool hero told TalkSport earlier this month. "My family are back home in Liverpool, the kids are all settled at school. I'm more ready than I have been. I'm all ears. But at the same time, I'm not chasing. I'm not searching, I'm not desperate. I'm in a good place."

He added: "Work-life balance is fantastic at the moment but if the right opportunity comes, I'm all ears to listen to that. But I'm having a fantastic time at TNT with Ally (McCoist) and the boys and the girls, covering some big games."

Gerrard's last managerial role in England was with Aston Villa, where he was dismissed in October 2022 after a poor run of results. He then took charge of Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia but left in January 2025. Since then, he has been working as a television pundit.

Burnley are currently in the Premier League but are expected to be relegated, which would see them return to the Championship. Scott Parker's position is under threat, and Gerrard is seen as a potential replacement who could lead the club's promotion push.

Would Gerrard be a good appointment for Burnley? The debate continues among fans and pundits alike.
