Great Birmingham Run 2026: Live Updates and Results

The sun may not be shining, but that has not deterred thousands of participants from taking part in this year's Great Birmingham Run. More than 18,000 people have signed up for the 2026 event, which started at 8:30 am today, May 3. The sold-out occasion sees runners pound city streets and the Alexander Stadium track, each chasing their finish line moment.

Road Closures and Event Details

Road closures are in place throughout the day. For a full list of closures and their durations, please refer to the dedicated road closures article. Participants in the 10k race will pass iconic landmarks such as Centenary Square, St Paul's Square, The Mailbox, and Grand Central. Half marathon runners will cover the same route before continuing on to Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston.

Medal Design Celebrates Birmingham's Music Legacy

This year, every finisher receives a medal that celebrates Birmingham's global music legacy. The medal features deep purple tones, vinyl-style grooves, and a detailed design that draws on the city's cultural identity, with a nod to Black Sabbath and the sound that shaped a genre. Etched lines represent every mile and kilometre completed, creating a lasting reminder of race day achievement.
