How James Morrison's Unbeaten Run Compares to West Brom's Best Recent Streaks
James Morrison's Unbeaten Run vs West Brom's Best Recent Streaks

Albion secured their Championship status with a goalless draw against Ipswich on Saturday. James Morrison can extend his unbeaten run as Albion boss to 11 games on the final day at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The sequence is already one of the most impressive in recent years for the club. Here is how the best previous five played out.

12 games - October to December 2024

Carlos Corberan led Albion's two longest unbeaten runs of recent years - and this sequence of a dozen matches currently leads the way. It was a remarkable stretch of Championship results primarily because it consisted of 10 draws and just two victories. The run polarised moods - with the safety-first Baggies struggling to find a breakthrough - and actually ended around a fortnight before Corberan left the club for Valencia on Christmas Eve. The two victories were 2-1 at Hull, midway through the spell, and 2-0 at home to Coventry, the match before the sequence came to an end in defeat at Watford. Morrison's current points return from six draws and four wins has eclipsed that total.

10 games - February to April 2024

Five wins and five draws as the campaign rolled into spring helped Corberan's troops strengthen their position in the play-off race. It was the Spaniard's first and only full season at the helm and ended in play-off semi-final defeat against Southampton. It started with a fine Mikey Johnston-inspired 3-0 midweek win at Plymouth and included a memorable success at Huddersfield. The draw at Hull was an impressive result against an in-form side but draws against QPR, Watford and Stoke were more frustrating. The 20-point haul here just edges the 18 points claimed by Morrison's current effort. The run was followed by three defeats prior to the play-offs.

Six games - December 2022 to January 2023

This sequence falls in the period of Spaniard Corberan arriving to lift the mood at The Hawthorns. It also came within a remarkable full run of just a single defeat - at Coventry before Christmas - from 12 games by Corberan. Like Morrison, the Spaniard endured defeat in his first game at the helm, but responded in some style. This six-game streak featured two FA Cup games against non-league Chesterfield, a lively 3-3 draw away before a Hawthorns replay success. League wins came over Bristol City, Preston and Reading and a stunning comeback success at Luton. Albion then lost late at Burnley.

Six games - April to August 2022

An asterisk next to this one as it stretches across two seasons under the management of Steve Bruce. Bruce oversaw two wins to finish the 2021/22 campaign after his February appointment. Karlan Grant was in the goals against Reading and Barnsley. The next term began with a couple of draws and an EFL Cup win before a deflating defeat at Blackburn.

Six games - August to September 2021

The exciting start of Valerien Ismael's tenure at The Hawthorns had fans dreaming before optimism quickly dried up in October. A youthful Baggies were smashed 6-0 by Arsenal in the EFL Cup - the only result which punctuated a run of 10 unbeaten games to start for the French boss. The six-match run contained three wins and three draws. The draws followed each other in September but Albion appeared to hit top gear in the fixture before the unbeaten run came to an end. Ismael's men thrashed Cardiff 4-0 in south Wales - notable for Alex Mowatt's rocket from range - and looked set to power on. Form turned increasingly patchy after defeat at Stoke and the former Barnsley man was dismissed shortly into the new year, with the club fifth.
