Morgan Rogers deflects praise after Villa double downs Man United
Rogers refuses praise after stunning Man Utd double

Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has swiftly redirected praise towards his teammates following a match-winning performance against Manchester United, refusing to be drawn into premature title discussions.

Rogers' Brace Seals Historic Victory

The 24-year-old attacker was the decisive figure in Aston Villa's 2-0 victory over Manchester United, scoring both goals to secure a crucial three points. This result marked a significant milestone, being only Villa's second home league win against United in the last 30 years. The previous victory came in Unai Emery's first match in charge back in November 2022.

This win also represents Aston Villa's tenth consecutive victory across all competitions, underscoring the remarkable form the club is currently enjoying under Emery's leadership.

A Record-Breaking Run of Form

Rogers' exploits have propelled him into the club's history books. He has now become the first Villa player to score two or more goals in back-to-back Premier League appearances since Dion Dublin achieved the feat in November 1998.

His recent brace at West Ham United, which included a spectacular strike considered a contender for goal of the season, preceded his heroics against United. He has also been pivotal in other key results, with standout goals against Tottenham Hotspur and a match-winning free-kick away at Leeds United's Elland Road.

Team First Mentality Shines Through

Despite the personal accolades, Rogers was adamant in post-match comments to Sky Sports that the collective effort is paramount. "It's massive. Every game is important, against no bigger team than United," Rogers stated. "They are a tough team to play against and we have not had a good record against them recently so we wanted to put it right."

He emphasised, "I'm really confident and enjoying my football but it's not just me, it's the whole team. The team's performances give me that belief and confidence and allow me to be me. Our team performances are getting us the wins, not just me."

On his personal ambitions, Rogers added, "I play football to try and fulfil my potential and be the best version of myself as possible. I try my hardest, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but I keep working hard."

Title Talk Firmly Shelved

When questioned about Aston Villa's potential involvement in the Premier League title race, the forward issued a clear and unified response on behalf of the dressing room. He refused to entertain the speculation, insisting the squad remains fully focused on the immediate challenge.

"You make those conversations, not us," Rogers asserted. "We're firmly focused on the task at hand and handling it each game." This disciplined approach reflects the grounded mentality Emery has instilled in his squad as they continue their impressive campaign.
