Tony McMahon Joins West Brom Coaching Staff

West Bromwich Albion have appointed Tony McMahon as a first-team coach, bringing in a figure widely described as hard-working and dedicated. The former defender, who played for the club between 2004 and 2007, returns to The Hawthorns to support head coach Carlos Corberán.

McMahon's Reputation Precedes Him

McMahon, 38, has been praised by those who have worked with him. Former Bradford City teammate James Hanson told the club's media: "He's well known for working hard. He'll bring that energy and enthusiasm to the coaching staff." Hanson added that McMahon's attention to detail and man-management skills were standout qualities during their time together at Valley Parade.

McMahon's playing career spanned over 400 appearances for clubs including Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, and Blackpool. He moved into coaching after retiring in 2020, most recently serving as an assistant at Bradford City.

What Corberán Expects

Head coach Carlos Corberán highlighted McMahon's familiarity with the club's culture. "Tony knows what it means to represent West Brom. He understands the demands of the Championship and will add value to our group," Corberán said in a club statement. The appointment fills the void left by former assistant Jamie Robinson, who departed earlier this month.

Impact on the Squad

Players have responded positively to McMahon's arrival. Captain Jed Wallace commented: "He's already made an impression with his intensity on the training ground. The lads respect his experience." West Brom currently sit fifth in the Championship table, aiming for promotion back to the Premier League.

McMahon's first game in the dugout will be against Hull City on Saturday. The Baggies will look to build on their recent form, having won three of their last five matches.
