Aston Villa have been cautioned against pursuing a summer transfer for Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, with former captain Andy Townsend urging the club to be wary of the Brazilian's injury record.
Transfer Speculation
Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly open to selling Jesus for £18 million as manager Mikel Arteta reshapes his squad. The forward, who cost £45 million from Manchester City in 2022, has struggled with recurring injuries and enters the final year of his contract.
Townsend's Warning
Speaking to OLBG, Townsend said: "I don't see Gabriel Jesus going to Aston Villa personally. At that price, many clubs will be interested, but he has had many injury problems. Villa must spend wisely."
Townsend acknowledged Jesus's work rate and leadership but stressed fitness concerns. "His career has been blighted by injuries. For Villa, that is a worry. They won't invest heavily unless a big offer comes for Ollie Watkins due to his age. I don't see Jesus as the right fit now."
He added: "He is a cheap player at £20 million—he has won leagues at Arsenal and City. But injuries are the issue. Can you get 32 games out of him? If only 20 appearances a season, that is not enough for a club like Villa."
