Wirral Metro swimmers shine at GB Aquatics Championships

There were some fantastic performances at the GB Aquatics Championships in London over the last week. For the third consecutive year, Wirral Metro’s Abbie Roscoe took the Junior 200m Butterfly title in a Personal Best time. She also claimed gold in the 400m Freestyle with almost identical 200m split times and set a PB when taking silver in the 1500m Freestyle, before rounding off a good week with a PB in the 800m Freestyle.

Other Wirral Metro highlights

Club colleague, Petra Varga, set a PB in the final of the 400m Individual Medley and also reached the final of the 200m Individual Medley. Lauren Berry set a season’s best in the 200m Butterfly, and Lily Horton posted her best time of the season in the 200m Individual Medley.

City of Liverpool achievements

Ethan Kelly led the City of Liverpool team, taking gold in the Junior 400m Freestyle and setting a 12-second PB when finishing 6th in the 1500m Freestyle. Dominic Workman and Ollie Lambert both set PBs in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyle events, with George Daintith and Matthew Warburton both producing their best ever times in the 1500m Freestyle.

Further successes

Sophie Dowding went under the nine minutes barrier for the first time in the 800m Freestyle and also set a PB in the 1500m Freestyle, whilst Kerry Hennie took sixth place in the 400m Freestyle as well as setting a PB when qualifying for the final of the 200m Freestyle. There was an eighth-place finish and a PB for Maddison Rens in the 800m Freestyle and also an eighth-place finish for Gabriella Hunt in the 100m Breaststroke. Rounding off a good week, there were also good performances from Aiden Kearney, George Pearce, Kate Roberts and Lucas Ellis-Sixsmith.
