Wolves Women are preparing for what manager Dan McNamara describes as a 'massive' play-off clash against Plymouth Argyle, with promotion to the Women's Super League 2 on the line.
The team missed out on the National League Northern Premier Division title by a single point after Burnley clinched top spot on the final day of the season. Under normal circumstances, that would have ended their promotion hopes, but due to the expansion of the Women's Super League next season, a one-off play-off between the Northern and Southern Premier Division runners-up will determine who moves up.
McNamara: 'We Deserve Promotion'
The match takes place at Burton's Pirelli Stadium on Monday afternoon. McNamara is confident his side can get the result they deserve after a tremendous campaign that saw them win 20 out of 22 league games.
'Hopefully we can get a decent crowd that'll follow us to Burton next week because we'll need it, we'll definitely need it,' McNamara said. 'I've said it for a long time, I think this club deserves to be playing in the WSL2. We've got an opportunity to do so and if you had offered us that back in July, I think you'd have certainly taken it.'
He added: 'The stats don't lie. To win 20 out of 22 league games and not win a title, you can feel a little bit hard done by. But they're the standards of tier three nowadays. I'm just really proud of the girls.'
Sims: 'A Massive Game'
Midfielder Amy Sims returned from injury to score in the final day win over Halifax, and she believes the team is ready to make history by reaching the WSL2 for the first time.
'What we've achieved is absolutely incredible this season,' Sims said. 'It's unfortunate we didn't quite clinch the top spot but we still have the opportunity to carry on our journey and get to where we want to be.'
She added: 'The girls will be up for it, it's a massive game, but it's what we deserve so we'll do absolutely everything we can. Everyone wants to get over the line, it will be an intense week of training and we all have to push each other.'
