Former Birmingham City Interim Manager Lee Carsley 'In Market for Club Job'
Lee Carsley, the former Birmingham City midfielder, coach, and one-time interim boss, is reportedly ready to make a return to club management. The 52-year-old is currently the head coach of the England under-21s, a role he has held with distinction, leading the Young Lions to consecutive European Championship titles.
A Brief Stint in Charge of Blues
Carsley has been out of club management since his brief stint in charge of Birmingham City in 2017. He took over on an interim basis following the sacking of Harry Redknapp, presiding over three games that resulted in one victory, one draw, and one defeat. Prior to that, he had a more successful spell at Brentford, where he even won a Championship Manager of the Month award in October 2015.
Linked with Championship Roles
Despite being linked with numerous club jobs during his time with the England set-up, Carsley has always opted against a return. However, journalist Alan Nixon now claims that Carsley is 'in the market for a club job'. This comes after he briefly led England's senior team in 2024 before Thomas Tuchel arrived to succeed Gareth Southgate.
A number of Championship positions could become available in the summer, with clubs like Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, and West Bromwich Albion all currently employing interim bosses until the end of the season. Carsley's experience and recent success with the England U21s make him an attractive candidate for these roles.
Current England U21s Campaign
Carsley's England U21s recently drew 1-1 with Andorra last week and are set to take on Moldova in their latest European Championship qualifier on Tuesday night. His focus remains on international duty, but the speculation about a club return continues to grow.
As the summer approaches, the football world will be watching closely to see if Lee Carsley makes the move back to club management, potentially bringing his winning pedigree to a Championship side in need of leadership and direction.
