Jadon Sancho Told Best Transfer Option as Aston Villa Decision Looms
The future of on-loan Aston Villa winger Jadon Sancho is up in the air ahead of the summer transfer window, with a key figure advising a return to his former club.
Sancho's Uncertain Future at Villa Park
Aston Villa loanee Jadon Sancho has been advised to return to Borussia Dortmund this summer. The 26-year-old winger's future remains uncertain as the end of the season approaches. He will see out the campaign at Villa Park on loan from Manchester United, but there is significant doubt over what will happen next.
Manchester United hold a 12-month extension option to retain Sancho's services until 2027, but reports indicate they are not planning to trigger it. Meanwhile, the former England international has been linked with a return to Dortmund, where he enjoyed a successful four-year spell from 2017 to 2021.
Marco Reus Advocates for Dortmund Return
Former Dortmund teammate Marco Reus is convinced heading back to Germany would be the best move for the Villa man. He told German newspaper Bild: "My advice to Jadon is to first and foremost look for a place where he feels comfortable again and can rediscover his game. And if that's at BVB, then it would be good for both him and Dortmund! He knows what the game needs."
Reus praised Sancho's abilities, stating: "I have rarely played with a player who instinctively made such good decisions in tight situations. He was sometimes quiet and introspective, but he still radiated good humour. Apart from his assists and goals, he knows what the game needs and what his teammates need. He is a player who draws two or three opponents to him and can accurately assess when to involve his teammates at the right moments."
Dortmund's Conditions for a Potential Move
According to Bild, Dortmund are interested in snapping up Sancho, but any move would depend on certain conditions being met. It is claimed the club do not want to pay a signing-on fee, despite the player likely being available on a free transfer, and would offer a salary of no more than €5 million (£4.3m) plus bonuses.
Sancho's Performance and Villa's Stance
Sancho has started eight Premier League games this season. In all competitions for Villa, he has made a total of 31 appearances, scored one goal, and chipped in with three assists.
Villa boss Unai Emery was last month asked about signing Sancho permanently and suggested a continued improvement would make him a player of interest: "He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him."
Injury Scare Adds to Uncertainty
Sancho suffered an injury scare during Villa's 2-1 friendly defeat to Elche on Friday. He fell awkwardly under a challenge from Gonzalo Villar five minutes before the interval, sparking immediate concern. The wide man was tended to by medical staff but was in obvious discomfort with his shoulder after he eventually got back to his feet. He was subsequently substituted by Emery.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Sancho's next move remains a topic of intense speculation, with his former club emerging as a favoured destination according to those who know him best.
