Wolves Boss Admits Pressure to Get Summer Recruitment Right

Wolves head coach Rob Edwards has provided an honest assessment of the club's recruitment strategy, emphasizing the critical importance of getting their summer plans correct while managing expectations.

Pressure Mounts as Relegation Looms

With Wolves facing a potential relegation this weekend if they fail to beat Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, depending on other results, the pressure is intensifying at Molineux. Edwards, who took charge after a disastrous summer of recruitment in 2025, is acutely aware of the challenges ahead.

Long-Term Fix Required

"You live and die by your recruitment at a football club, so we need to get the summer right," Edwards stated. He acknowledged that the issues at Wolves cannot be resolved in a single transfer window, despite the urgency. "We knew it was a huge challenge coming in, we've had one window and we knew it was never going to be fixed in one window. We need time and I think everyone understands that."

The head coach admitted that supporters are likely to feel frustration, given the mistakes made over several years. "There will be frustration, the supporters will be frustrated, but we've made mistakes over a number of years and we need to try and correct that. It's not going to happen in one window, so we have a lot of work to do, but I am encouraged."

Positive Signs Amidst Difficulties

Despite the current struggles, Edwards highlighted reasons for optimism. "There's a lot of good people here, some really good planning going on and we have lots of good players here as well that we'd love to be able to work with next year. Time will tell. Although we're having a very difficult time, there are some things to look forward to and we can hopefully get the club back to where we believe it can be."

Focus on Immediate Challenges

Edwards also stressed the importance of concentrating on Wolves' final six games of the season, starting with the crucial match at Elland Road. "You're talking longer term and further down the line and people find it hard to listen to all that at the moment. But like I said, I'm encouraged, I'm positive with what we can do with this club over a period of time."

He added, "People want to see the here and the now as well, so we've got to make sure we finish as strongly as possible and the next thing is Leeds. We want to return some of the really good times that we've had over this last decade."

As Wolves navigate this critical period, Edwards' comments underscore the delicate balance between short-term survival and long-term rebuilding, with summer recruitment poised to play a pivotal role in the club's future trajectory.
