Two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has survived a serious road traffic accident in Nigeria which tragically claimed the lives of two other men.
Preliminary Cause Announced by Authorities
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has released its initial findings into the collision, which occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, near Lagos. Officials stated that the crash involved the black Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck.
The FRSC's preliminary report indicates that the Lexus, "suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit," lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and collided with the truck, which was parked at the side of the road.
Details of the Crash and Rescue
The incident happened at around 12:00 hrs local time along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area, close to the Sagamu Interchange. According to the FRSC, a total of five adult males were involved.
Two individuals lost their lives at the scene, while Joshua sustained minor injuries. One other person was injured, and two escaped unharmed. Footage shared on social media showed the 36-year-old boxer being helped from the wreckage of the vehicle, where he had been seated in the rear.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with FRSC operatives arriving at the scene within three minutes of notification. Joshua and the other injured victim were evacuated for medical attention. The remains of the deceased were taken to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased. Police noted that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has commenced, with further updates to follow.
