Birmingham City Reportedly Agree Deal for Promising Attacker Jeremy Sarmiento

Birmingham City have been active in the January transfer window, securing deals for players such as Jhon Solis, August Priske, Kai Wagner, and Ibrahim Osman. Now, reports suggest the club are closing in on another significant addition.

Deal for Sarmiento Nearing Completion

According to Sky Sports News, Birmingham City have agreed a deal for Brighton attacker Jeremy Sarmiento. The report indicates that Sarmiento is currently discussing personal terms, though formalities remain to be finalised. This follows earlier claims from talkSPORT that the deal was pretty much done, as Birmingham aim to outpace Championship rivals in the pursuit.

Middlesbrough and Stoke City have also been linked with the player, but TeessideLive reported on Tuesday that Middlesbrough are moving on to other options after attempts to sign Sarmiento reached an impasse.

Sarmiento's Career and Recent Form

Jeremy Sarmiento, aged 23, is currently on loan with Cremonese in Serie A, having joined them on transfer deadline day last summer. However, he has struggled for game time, making just seven appearances with no starts. The versatile player, who operates on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, joined Brighton's youth set-up from Benfica in 2021 but has played only 21 times for the club since.

In recent seasons, Sarmiento has spent most of his time on loan:

  • He helped Ipswich Town achieve promotion in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
  • He played 37 matches for Burnley last season as they finished second behind Leeds United, securing a return to the Premier League.

Birmingham's Connections and Current Stance

Birmingham City already have connections with Brighton, with James Beadle and Ibrahim Osman on loan from the Seagulls. The club also previously had Eiran Cashin on loan before his move was cut short and he was sent to Blackburn Rovers.

While reports suggest a deal is close, BirminghamLive understands that the club are interested in Sarmiento but have not been able to corroborate claims that an agreement is imminent. This leaves fans eagerly awaiting further developments as the transfer window progresses.
