Birmingham City have officially confirmed their squad for the crucial Championship run-in, following a busy January transfer window that saw six new players arrive at St Andrew's. Manager Chris Davies has finalised his 24-man selection ahead of the EFL deadline, with the club successfully balancing new additions and departures to meet league regulations.
Transfer Window Activity Shapes Final Squad
The winter transfer period proved transformative for Birmingham City, with the club welcoming defenders Kai Wagner and Jonathan Panzo, midfielders Jhon Solis and August Priske, winger Carlos Vicente, and forward Ibrahim Osman. These six signings were offset by the departure of thirteen senior players, though only seven of those were originally named in the club's EFL squad list from September.
This strategic reshuffling means manager Chris Davies faces no difficult selection dilemmas for the submission, with all remaining senior players eligible for inclusion. The club has adhered to EFL rules, which permit a maximum of twenty-five senior players, with at least eight required to be homegrown.
Homegrown Quota and Squad Composition
Birmingham City's squad notably meets the homegrown requirement comfortably, with exactly half of the twenty-four players qualifying. Skipper Christoph Klarer is among those counted, having spent part of his youth career in England with Southampton. The squad list includes twenty-three senior players, all of whom can be named for the remaining sixteen Championship matches.
An exception is August Priske, who, as a player aged twenty-one or under at the season's start, does not need to be registered. However, loan players such as Brighton's James Beadle and Ibrahim Osman, despite also being under-21, must be included per league regulations.
