Chris Davies Applauds Carlos Vicente's Growing Influence at Birmingham City

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has highlighted the significant impact of winger Carlos Vicente following the team's 2-0 victory over Wrexham at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park on Sunday. The Spaniard, who joined the club in a £7 million transfer from La Liga in January, delivered a Player of the Match performance, underscoring his increasing value in the Championship.

Vicente's Key Contributions and Adaptation

Vicente opened the scoring early in the second half with a well-placed header, marking his first goal at his new home ground. This strike extended his scoring streak to back-to-back games, bringing his total to three goals since his arrival. Blues captain Christoph Klarer later secured the points, but it was Vicente's display that captured attention.

Davies expressed his admiration for Vicente's work ethic and tactical understanding. "He was excellent," Davies said. "He had a big job on his hands up and down the line with the wing-back, which I was trusting him to do – he's really diligent and works hard. As a winger, I love to see them scoring at the back post. That's where all your goals are. You just say it over and over, 'Arrive at the back post, arrive at the back post...' whether it's a volley or a tap-in, but with the head, even better."

The manager emphasized Vicente's adaptation to the rigors of English football. "He is showing his adaptation to this league. This league can make a really good player look really ordinary – that's one thing I have seen this season. But he's showing that he's adapting from Spain to England and the Championship," Davies added.

Revitalized Attacking System

Vicente is a key component of Birmingham City's new-look front four, which has energized supporters with its dynamic play. The attacking unit features August Priske as the focal point, with Vicente, Jay Stansfield, and Ibrahim Osman providing support and creativity from behind.

The inclusion of the 6ft 4in striker Priske, combined with the athleticism of his teammates, has enabled Blues to adopt a more direct and effective style in recent matches. Davies noted the tactical shift: "In the last few games we've definitely found a way to get forward quicker, to get more box threat in games, and if it opens a little bit we've played. You can only really do it if you've got an actual presence and someone with physicality. With August, you're not going to win every single header but he's really neat and tidy around the second balls with both feet and his touch. He's growing game by game in his confidence."

Davies further explained the team's evolution: "I've liked the way we've played forward more to be perfectly honest, rather than recycling and playing around too much, which started to become more ineffective for us. We just have to be a good team and play good football – and that's effective football."

This victory and Vicente's standout role signal a positive direction for Birmingham City as they continue to refine their attacking approach under Davies' guidance.
