Premier League Legend Gareth Barry Takes on 'Angry Ambassador' Role at Birmingham Football Attraction
The iconic former Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry is making a highly anticipated return to Birmingham, this time in a completely different capacity. Barry has been officially appointed as the 'Angry Ambassador' for TOCA Social, the popular immersive football and dining venue. This exciting new role coincides with the launch of a brand-new interactive Angry Birds gaming experience that will debut across all UK TOCA Social locations, including the Bullring in Birmingham, on March 30.
A Perfect Match: Barry's Record and the Angry Birds Theme
Gareth Barry, who remains one of the most celebrated figures in Premier League history, holds the notorious distinction of being the most carded player in the competition's existence. Throughout his illustrious career, characterized by a famously tough-tackling style, Barry accumulated a staggering 123 yellow cards. While this disciplinary record was often a source of debate on the pitch, TOCA Social executives believe it uniquely qualifies him to represent the fiery spirit of the Angry Birds franchise.
"After playing over 700 games at the highest level, in some of the most hostile environments, I know a thing or two about channelling anger," Barry stated. "Being signed as the Angry Ambassador is a fun play on my disciplinary record, and I’m buzzing to dust down my boots and top the leaderboard!"
Interactive Game Launch and Community Engagement
The former England international, who made an impressive 653 Premier League appearances, will travel back to Birmingham to personally test the new game. As a key part of the launch event, Barry will host an interactive question-and-answer session at TOCA Social with children from the Villa Foundation. This initiative provides local youngsters with a rare opportunity to challenge the football legend himself within the new digital gaming arena.
The innovative game was developed in collaboration with Rovio Entertainment, the creators of Angry Birds. It transforms players' feet into a real-life slingshot. Participants kick footballs at large interactive screens to trigger explosions, demolish structures, and defeat the infamous 'Bad Piggies' in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
Venue Details and National Rollout
This immersive Angry Birds football experience will be available at three major UK locations:
- The Bullring in Birmingham
- The O2 in London
- Westfield White City in London
The launch marks a significant expansion of interactive entertainment offerings at TOCA Social, blending physical sport with digital gaming in a unique social setting. Barry's involvement adds a layer of authentic football heritage to the campaign, particularly resonating with fans in his former club city of Birmingham.
