Leeds Manager Farke Hints at Injury Boost Ahead of Wolves Premier League Clash

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has provided an update on his squad's fitness ahead of Saturday's crucial Premier League home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Farke has not ruled out the possibility of one or more injured players making a timely return to bolster his options for the match at Elland Road.

Injury Update on Key Trio

The German coach specifically mentioned midfielders Anton Stach and Daniel James, along with defender Joe Rodon, as players who could potentially feature. All three missed Monday night's dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford due to various injuries.

Stach and Rodon are both recovering from ankle problems, while James is dealing with an adductor issue. That important win against their Roses rivals lifted Leeds six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, providing crucial breathing space in their survival battle.

Farke's Cautious Optimism

While Farke stated he expects to select from essentially the same squad that triumphed at Manchester United, he intriguingly hinted at what he described as a "positive surprise" regarding player availability. "All the players who were available for Monday are also at least ready for this game," Farke confirmed during his pre-match press conference.

He elaborated on the recovery process for his injured players: "For the other players who are injured, with Joe, Dan and Anton, the first step is that they would be back in team training. If they have a bit of team training they're available for the games."

The manager added a note of caution, explaining: "We have two days before the game, but no-one is back in team training yet. Sometimes there could be a negative surprise, sometimes a positive surprise. We assess them day by day but none are back in team training yet. All the others are available."

Opportunity to Extend Survival Buffer

Saturday's match presents Leeds with a significant opportunity to potentially move nine points clear of the relegation zone. This advantage could be established before other relegation-threatened teams including West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham Hotspur play their weekend fixtures.

Farke emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite their recent success: "We have to make sure that we do not lose nerves and stay focussed and stay concentrated. On the other hand, with this group, it is relatively easy because I have got top characters, and also experienced players who are fully aware that after a big win, you have a chance in the next game."

Respect for Wolves Challenge

The Leeds manager expressed considerable respect for Wolves and their manager Rob Edwards ahead of the encounter: "I am full of respect for Rob Edwards, bringing way more stability into their performances and to their results, and we know how difficult this game will be."

Farke highlighted Wolves' recent impressive form as evidence of their threat: "They have had many good results, including the back-to-back wins against Liverpool and Aston Villa. This makes them a dangerous side and they have threats, they can go for counter-attacking players in the offence and they can go for physical players in the offence. We need a top performance again."

The potential return of key players could provide Leeds with additional options as they seek to secure another vital three points in their Premier League survival campaign. Farke's squad will be looking to build on their momentum from the Manchester United victory when they welcome Wolves to Elland Road this weekend.
