Northwest Masters Swimming Event Draws Local Crowd in Blackpool
The Northwest Masters swimming competition, held in Blackpool on Saturday, generated significant local excitement as athletes from various clubs showcased their skills in a series of thrilling races. The event attracted a large audience, underscoring the community's passion for aquatic sports and highlighting the dedication of masters swimmers across the region.
Outstanding Performances from Bebington and Warrington Clubs
Andrew Dobbing from Bebington made a remarkable start by securing gold in the 1500m Freestyle during the opening event. He continued his dominance throughout the day, adding four more gold medals and two silvers to his impressive collection. His club colleague, David Russell, also excelled, winning gold in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.
Warrington Masters had a particularly successful outing, with Mark Jones claiming four golds and three silvers. Carl Barkley contributed three golds and a silver, while Ben Harkin finished with three gold medals. Other notable achievements included two golds for Graeme Atherton, a gold and silver for Joshua Moniz, and a gold and bronze for Neil Barnes. Michael Rimmington earned silver in the 100m Freestyle, and Lindsay Houlston took bronze in the 50m Freestyle.
City of Liverpool and Hoylake Teams Showcase Strength
Melanie Sayed led the City of Liverpool team with four gold medals, demonstrating exceptional prowess in the pool. Steven Wall was in top form, securing gold in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle. Tony Wylie added to the team's success with gold in the 100m Individual Medley and silvers in both the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. Lois Keyes won a gold and silver, Jake Simm claimed a gold and bronze, and Sara James earned two silvers.
Hoylake was well-represented, with Annabel Underwood picking up three golds and a silver, and Matt James winning two golds and a bronze. George Cain struck gold in the 100m Individual Medley, while Samantha Maher secured silver medals in both the 100m and 200m Individual Medley. John Palmi ended the day with two silvers and a bronze, and Anna Underwood, Darren Jones, Lee Newcombe, and Lionel Blin also added to the medal tally.
