In his debut season at The Hawthorns, Phillips has experienced three different managers, but he credits Morrison's straightforward methods for addressing the team's alarming slump in form.

Since James Morrison took over as manager following the unsuccessful tenures of Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, West Brom has shown marked improvement. The club legend's appointment has catalyzed a timely four-match unbeaten run, providing a crucial boost ahead of the final push for safety. Phillips, a 29-year-old experienced defender, has been particularly impressed with Morrison's emphasis on simplifying the game and enhancing training ground work.
"Certainly at first, that's how we saw it," Phillips said regarding the simplification of Albion's tactics. "To take away any potential areas of confusion or misunderstanding certainly helps. Also defensively, when we're pressed in going after teams, I think everyone's role is pretty clear."
He added that Morrison's strategy of deploying two strikers high up the pitch has increased pressure on opponents, leading to more goal-scoring opportunities. This tactical shift has been evident in recent victories over Hull City and Bristol City, which have lifted Albion to 20th place in the Championship, now four points clear of the relegation zone.

"Early doors, he said he wanted another player higher up the pitch because even though we had possession, creating goalscoring opportunities was another thing," Phillips explained. "We've seen that in the goals we've scored, certainly in the last two games and the chances we've created."
Furthermore, Phillips highlighted that the team has been dominating possession more recently, aligning with West Brom's historical playing style and the preferences of the current squad. "I think it's been suiting us," he remarked, underscoring the positive impact of Morrison's management.

"He's still the same person with more responsibility, but Moz is a great guy; all the lads love him," Phillips said. "He's very popular at the club and in his manager role now, he's still easy to talk to and easy to approach. He’s willing to have discussions and open conversations."

Phillips described Gill as a "huge addition" who brings fresh perspectives and new messages to the training pitch. "The stuff that we're doing day-to-day and how that props us up going into games and reasons behind what we're doing on the training pitch," he said. "It’s almost like a fresh set of eyes as well and maybe some new messages that we hadn't heard up until now."
With stability now under Morrison's leadership, Phillips expressed confidence in the team's ability to navigate the remaining challenges of the season and secure their Championship status.
