AS Roma Submit Formal Proposal for Wolves Defender David Moller Wolfe
Italian Serie A heavyweights AS Roma have reportedly made their first official approach to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back David Moller Wolfe during the January transfer window. This development comes just six months after the Norwegian international completed a £10 million summer move to Molineux from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Transfer Expert Reveals Negotiations Are Underway
Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has disclosed on social media platform X that negotiations between the two clubs have commenced regarding a potential permanent transfer. Romano stated that "AS Roma make first proposal to Wolves for David Moller Wolfe as new left back. Negotiations opened between clubs on permanent deal move."
The 23-year-old defender arrived at Wolves with considerable promise, having recorded three goals and eight assists in 47 appearances across all competitions during his final season with Alkmaar. His performances helped the Dutch club secure a fifth-place Eredivisie finish and reach both the Europa League knockout stages and the KNVB Cup final.
Struggles to Establish Premier League Footing
Despite his promising pedigree, Moller Wolfe has encountered difficulties establishing himself as a regular starter under manager Rob Edwards. The Norwegian has made 14 Premier League appearances this season, with only eight coming as starts, and has been limited to just three minutes of top-flight football across Wolves' last five matches.
Upon his summer arrival, Moller Wolfe expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Premier League club, stating: "I'm so, so happy and so proud to be a part of Wolves, so I'm over the moon right now. I felt incredibly wanted from the second I talked to Domenico [Teti, Wolves director of football] and the second I talked to the coach."
Roma's Defensive Considerations and Previous Encounter
AS Roma's interest emerges amid growing uncertainty surrounding the future of current left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who joined the Italian club on a season-long loan from Liverpool. Tsimikas has made 16 appearances across all competitions but hasn't consistently secured a starting position under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Intriguingly, Moller Wolfe previously faced Roma during his time with AZ Alkmaar, providing an assist in a surprise 1-0 victory against the Serie A side in January 2025. This performance appears to have left a lasting impression on the Italian club's recruitment team.
The Norwegian defender, who harbours ambitions of representing his country at the upcoming World Cup, now faces a crucial career decision as he contemplates his future following a challenging initial period in English football.
