Tyson Fury Handed Immediate Boxing Ban After Anthony Joshua Challenge

Tyson Fury and his opponent Arslanbek Makhmudov have been issued an immediate boxing ban by the British Boxing Board of Control following their recent Netflix fight. The 37-year-old Fury made his return to the ring after a 15-month absence, securing a comfortable decision victory over Makhmudov.

Fury's Return and Bold Call-Out

Fury won widely on the scorecards in his comeback bout and wasted no time in calling out British rival Anthony Joshua, who was present at ringside. "I challenge you, Anthony Joshua, to fight me next. Do you accept?" Fury announced to the crowd, setting the stage for a potential blockbuster all-British heavyweight clash.

Mandatory Ban Under BBBoC Regulations

However, ahead of any such fight, both Fury and Makhmudov face a mandatory ban as per the British Boxing Board of Control's rules. Section 5.4(a) of Regulation 5 in the BBBoC's handbook states: "No Boxer shall box in a contest within six clear days from the date of his last contest."

The regulation allows for waivers only in specific cases, such as when a late substitute is required and the boxer won their last contest within the first two rounds. Additionally, no boxer is permitted to engage in more than one contest on any single day.

Joshua's Response and Future Prospects

Anthony Joshua, however, did not confirm whether a fight with Fury would happen next. Instead, he labeled Fury a "clout chaser" and emphasized his own circumstances. "You aren't going to tell me what to do - I've been chasing you for 10 years," Joshua replied.

Speaking to Netflix, Joshua added: "We'll see. I was just in a serious incident, maybe four months ago. So I really need to check out what's going on in my return to the ring. But I'm here, I'm keeping my eye in the game. There's real stuff happening in my life. It's not like I'm ducking no one. I know what my job is, I know what I'm here to do. There's just real stuff happening in my life that I've got to attend to. Once I'm 100 per cent, I'll be ready."

Fury's Recent Career Context

Fury's return to boxing comes on the back of two defeats by heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, which remain his only professional career losses to date. He has made it clear that a fight with Joshua is the only contest that currently interests him, highlighting the high stakes in the British heavyweight scene.

This ban, while standard under BBBoC protocols, adds a layer of complexity to the potential matchup, as both fighters navigate regulatory requirements and personal readiness in the coming months.
