West Brom Manager James Morrison Imposes Silence on Financial Charge
West Bromwich Albion head coach James Morrison has taken a firm stance by prohibiting any conversation regarding the club's recent EFL charge for an alleged profit and sustainability rules (PSR) breach at the training facility. The Baggies boss revealed this decisive move after addressing both club officials and the squad earlier this week.
Morrison's Business as Usual Approach
Morrison, the former midfielder turned manager, discovered the news simultaneously with everyone else when it emerged at the start of the week. He promptly held a brief discussion with the club's hierarchy before conveying a clear message to the players: it must be business as usual.
"I found out exactly when everyone else did and my stance on it is the same," Morrison stated. "It's not in our hands. Our job is to be on the football side and not let that affect us, and I believe it will bring us closer together, stronger than ever, to get the job done."
Strict Ban on PSR Discussions
The manager explicitly banned all talk of the PSR charge and potential sanctions, which could include a points deduction, from the training ground. He emphasized that the matter is beyond the team's control and should not distract from their on-field responsibilities.
"I actually banned people from talking about it really because it's not in our control, so we can only control what we can control, and that was the end of it really," Morrison explained. "As simple as that. I don't want to hear about it. Obviously it's a big story externally but not in here."
Focus on Championship Survival Battle
Despite acknowledging the news as a "little knock," Morrison stressed that the squad has been dealing with a relegation battle for several weeks and knows exactly what is required. Attention now shifts to the crucial Championship survival fight, with West Brom set to face mid-table Preston North End this Saturday.
Entering the weekend, the Baggies boasted an impressive seven-match unbeaten run and held a two-point cushion above the relegation zone. The team receives a significant boost with the return of key players Karlan Grant, Chris Mepham, and Tammer Bany from injury, all available for the upcoming clash at Deepdale.
