A 53-year-old woman from Manchester has revealed the unusual dietary secret behind her incredible success as a world champion arm wrestler. Agy Górzyńska, a triple world champion and eight-time British national title holder, credits her sustained power to a specific breakfast she eats three times a week.
The Unconventional Champion's Diet
Agy Górzyńska's winning breakfast consists of fried chicken livers, wholemeal toast, eggs, spinach, raw eggs, and milk. The leisure centre manager swears by this potent meal, which she believes has been crucial to maintaining her strength as she has aged. "This is the best breakfast ever!" she declared. "My wife and my friends think I'm crazy but it's a great breakfast and has kept me strong as I've got older."
She emphasises that the meal is incredibly nutritious and perfectly prepares her for her rigorous training sessions. "If you want to keep strong this is what you need to be eating," she advises, while also stressing that a balanced diet and sufficient rest are as vital as hard work in her regimen.
From Tea Break Contests to World Champion
Agy's journey into competitive arm wrestling began 13 years ago in an unlikely setting. While working in a security role on a construction site in 2009, she started arm wrestling her male colleagues during tea breaks. Her frequent victories prompted her co-workers to suggest she take up the sport seriously. After some online research, she joined a club in Wigan in 2012.
Her natural talent was immediately apparent. She won her very first competition, the British Nationals in Lancashire, in 2013. Just a year later, she secured a bronze medal in the 80kg+ category at the World Championships in Lithuania. She moved down to the under-80kg class and claimed her first world gold in Bulgaria in 2017, a moment she describes as "amazing." She successfully defended her world title in France in 2022 and again in Greece in 2025.
Strength, Technique, and Inspiring Others
Now a southpaw competitor who wrestles with both arms after an injury to her left in 2018, Agy's approach is about more than just brute force. With biceps measuring 38cm and a bench press exceeding 100kg, she insists impressive numbers aren't everything. "It's about control and technique as well as strength," she explained. "I'm athletic and strong but I don't have massive stand-out muscles."
Her training schedule involves two weekly sessions at her arm wrestling club plus three gym workouts. She is passionate about encouraging more women to take up the sport, particularly for the physical and mental benefits. "Weight training is really good for women especially approaching the menopause, and it's really good for mental health," she said. Agy, who moved to the UK from Poland in 2005, wants to be a strong example for girls and women in British arm wrestling, a community she describes as "lovely and really supportive."
