Aston Villa are preparing to send young striker Rory Wilson out on loan during the current January transfer window, despite the player only recently committing his future to the club.
New contract precedes loan departure
The 20-year-old Scottish youth international signed a new contract with Villa after the summer transfer window closed in 2026. This agreement was reached following assurances about first-team involvement for the promising forward.
However, those plans were disrupted by injuries, which limited Wilson's exposure to senior football and also restricted his appearances for the club's under-21 side in Premier League 2.
European interest in prolific youngster
Since returning to action in September, Wilson has demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess in the UEFA Youth League. He has scored two goals and contributed to five goals across just four matches in the competition this season.
This potential has not gone unnoticed. Villa have reportedly received significant loan interest in the youngster from a host of European clubs. Several clubs in Denmark's top division are interested, while teams in Belgium, Austria, and the Netherlands are also keen.
This widespread attention is unsurprising given Wilson's pedigree. A year ago, when he entered the final months of his previous Villa contract, he attracted as many as nine concrete pre-contract offers from interested parties.
Proven goal-scoring record
Wilson joined Aston Villa from Rangers in the summer of 2022, having scored an impressive 51 goals at youth level for the Scottish giants.
He continued his prolific form in England. During the 2022/23 season, he netted 15 goals for Villa's under-18 and under-21 sides. He followed that up by adding another 19 goals the following campaign.
This impending loan move will be the first temporary switch of Wilson's career, offering him a crucial opportunity to gain regular senior football and continue his development away from Villa Park.
