Five Lufthansa Flights Cancelled at Birmingham Airport Amid Fuel Crisis
Five Flights Cancelled at Birmingham Airport

Five flights are cancelled at Birmingham Airport today (Saturday, 25 April) as Lufthansa axes thousands of routes from its summer schedule to conserve jet fuel. The German airline group announced it will cancel 20,000 short-haul flights scheduled until October, aiming to reduce fuel consumption amid potential shortages and soaring prices triggered by the ongoing war in Iran.

Fuel Costs Double

Jet fuel prices have doubled since the onset of the US-Israel conflict with Iran, disrupting production and transportation across the Middle East. Lufthansa Group is implementing cuts across its six main hubs: Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome, scrapping 120 flights daily. Other carriers, including KLM-France and Delta, have also temporarily reduced flights or raised ticket prices to offset higher expenses.

Impact on Birmingham Airport

Lufthansa services from Birmingham have been affected in recent days and will continue to face disruptions throughout the summer. Flights to Frankfurt and Munich are among those suspended for months.
