A proposed new bus scheme designed to serve one of Birmingham's busiest key routes is poised to receive backing from transport authorities. Members of the West Midlands Combined Authority's Investment Board are scheduled to discuss the £15.5 million Cross City Bus Package 6 West initiative, which targets significant improvements along the critical Number 74 service corridor.

The £15.597 million programme aims to implement bus priority measures between Birmingham City Centre and West Bromwich, specifically supporting the Number 74 bus service. This route is a major link connecting Birmingham, West Bromwich, and the wider Black Country region, with the A41 Soho Road serving as a key local centre within the West Midlands Key Route Network.
If approved, construction work is expected to commence in August of this year, with completion targeted for June next year. The Investment Board will review the business case and total budget during their meeting on Monday, March 23.

The primary goals of the Cross City Bus scheme are to enhance journey times and reliability by enabling buses to bypass congestion on heavily trafficked routes. According to a report prepared for the Board, the proposed measures are projected to deliver several tangible benefits:
