Train passengers across the West Midlands have been advised to 'only travel if necessary' amid the ongoing UK heatwave, with CrossCountry urging customers to limit travel until Thursday, June 25 due to extreme heat affecting large parts of England and Wales.
Reduced services and disruption expected
CrossCountry confirmed it would run a reduced service on some routes from Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25. Further disruption across the network was possible, the company said. Customers with tickets for travel on either Wednesday or Thursday can use their ticket 'at no extra cost' to travel on earlier services on the same day. Alternatively, passengers can travel on CrossCountry services on Friday, June 26.
Official advice from CrossCountry
Mark Anderson, customer and commercial director at CrossCountry, said: 'Very hot weather is expected across much of the country over the next few days, which may affect some journeys. We’ll be running services, but there will be widespread disruption. Please take care in the heat by bringing water and staying hydrated, check your journey before you travel, and if you can, consider travelling at a cooler time or delaying your trip on Wednesday and Thursday.'
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat for Wednesday and Thursday, with June’s all-time daily record temperature forecast to be broken. Passengers are advised to stay updated via CrossCountry's website and social media channels.
