Fort Parkway tops Birmingham speed camera van fines in 2026

Nearly 800 speeding fines have been issued on Fort Parkway in Birmingham so far in 2026, making it the most frequent location for police speed camera vans in the city, exclusive figures have revealed.

Fort Parkway: The top hotspot for speed camera vans

The notorious dual carriageway, near the M6, has long been known for speeding issues and is also among the city's racing hotspots. Police vans regularly park on the section between Spitfire Island and Fort Retail Park. A total of 774 speeding penalties have been issued after being caught by speed camera vans since the start of this year — more than 100 every month on average.

According to freedom of information data obtained by BirminghamLive, this serves as a warning to regular commuters and nearby residents that the vans are likely to be parked up weekly or monthly. The vans often prove more effective than fixed speed cameras as they move to different locations, making it harder for motorists to anticipate where and when they will be.

Why speed camera vans are effective

While drivers may know where fixed cameras are and be able to slow down for them, there is more chance of being caught unawares by a police van parked at the side of the road. It may be too late to slow down by the time they have spotted them. The vans display speed camera symbols and are marked, but their mobility makes them a constant deterrent.

The data highlights the ongoing enforcement efforts to tackle speeding on Birmingham's roads, with Fort Parkway remaining a key focus for police.
