A 62-year-old man has died following a collision with a car on a major Wolverhampton road, prompting a police investigation and a six-hour road closure.
Early Morning Tragedy on Stafford Road
The incident occurred on the A449 Stafford Road in Bushbury, Wolverhampton, at approximately 6.15am on Saturday, January 10, 2026. The pedestrian was struck near the junction with Bee Lane and Wobaston Road.
Members of the public rushed to the man's aid alongside emergency services, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to the serious injuries he sustained.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Officers from the West Midlands Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit believe the man was hit by a blue Volkswagen. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs. He has been released pending further investigation as police work to establish the full circumstances leading to the crash.
Major Route Disrupted as Appeal Launched
The southbound section of the A449 Stafford Road, a key route into Wolverhampton city centre, was closed for around six hours to allow for forensic examinations. It reopened just after 12pm.
Detective Sergeant Richard Evans thanked those who stopped to help and issued a direct appeal for information. "We are urging anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to us to come forward," he said.
Investigators are particularly keen to obtain any dashcam footage from vehicles travelling in the area around the time of the incident.
