A major route into Wolverhampton has been shut for several hours following a serious road traffic collision this morning.

West Midlands Police confirmed they are at the scene of a serious incident on the A449 Stafford Road in the Bushbury area. The force has implemented a full road closure on the southbound carriageway, which leads into the city centre from the M54 junction.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on A449 Stafford Road in Wolverhampton and a road closure is in place. The carriageway travelling into the city from the M54 junction, is shut off between Springfield Lane and Bee Lane."
The spokesperson added: "The road closure is set to remain in place for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes."
