A young couple have described themselves as "lucky to still be here" after a terrifying motorway crash just days before Christmas, which saw their car written off after being struck by a lorry.
A Terrifying Spin Across the Motorway
Kimberley Ryder, 21, and Callum Tweedie, 24, were travelling on the M42 from Birmingham when the incident occurred. According to Kimberley, a lorry driver in the second lane, indicating to move over, failed to see her black Volkswagen Polo and smashed directly into the driver's side.
The force of the impact sent the Polo spinning violently across all lanes of the motorway and into the central reservation. The collision happened at around 12.30pm on Monday, December 22, just past junction 3 of the M42.
A Desperate Search for Evidence
In the aftermath, the couple's vehicle, a black 25-reg Polo with the registration RO75 JJE, was declared a total loss. They are now issuing a heartfelt plea to other motorists for any dashcam footage that may have captured the moments leading up to or during the crash.
Kimberley explained that she had contacted National Highways for potential CCTV evidence but was informed the cameras were not pointing in their direction at the time. This has made finding independent video evidence crucial.
The couple also wished to thank two men named Paul and another, whose full name they did not catch, who stopped at the scene to help them in the immediate aftermath of the shocking collision.
An Appeal for Witnesses
"We are lucky to still be here," Kimberley stated, reflecting on the severity of the crash. She is urging anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward, saying it would be "highly appreciated."
The search for evidence continues as the couple seek to fully understand the circumstances of the collision that left their car wrecked and them shaken but, thankfully, alive.
