Tamworth Motorist Sentenced to Prison for Reckless M6 Toll Incident
A driver from Tamworth has been handed a custodial sentence following a terrifying episode of dangerous driving on the M6 Toll in Staffordshire. Jordan Sneddon, aged 28, engaged in a series of reckless maneuvers that put numerous lives at risk.
Wrong-Way Driving and High-Speed Chase
The incident began when Sneddon, operating a black MG vehicle, executed a U-turn at a pay station on the M6 Toll. He then proceeded to travel in the incorrect direction along the carriageway, directly opposing the flow of traffic. Upon exiting the toll road, he was sighted by officers from the Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team on Pool Lane.
When instructed to stop, Sneddon accelerated away from the police, initiating a pursuit. The chase continued through the areas of Burntwood and Lichfield, during which Sneddon demonstrated a blatant disregard for road safety regulations.
Excessive Speeding and Collision
His driving reached alarmingly dangerous levels as he accelerated to 90 miles per hour within a designated 30 mph zone. Additionally, he proceeded through a red traffic signal without stopping. The most dramatic moment occurred when Sneddon collided with a traffic island, an impact so severe that it caused his vehicle to become completely airborne.
The pursuit concluded on the A51 roadway near Rugeley, where the extensive damage sustained by the MG forced it to a halt. Officers promptly apprehended Sneddon at the scene.
Court Sentencing and Police Commentary
At Stafford Crown Court on Monday, February 16, Jordan Sneddon received a prison sentence of one year and two months after admitting to the charge of driving a motor vehicle dangerously. In addition to his incarceration, the court imposed a driving disqualification for a period of two years, extended by seven months, and mandated that he undertake an extended retest before regaining his license.
Sneddon was also convicted for failing to provide a specimen for analysis. PC Mark Boyles of Staffordshire Police commented on the case, stating, “Sneddon’s driving was incredibly reckless and could have easily resulted in someone being seriously or fatally injured. I’m pleased that we were able to resolve this incident safely and prevent potential injury to both Sneddon and other road users.”
A spokesperson for the police force emphasized the severity of the offences, noting the driver travelled at triple the posted speed limit during the ordeal. This case underscores the critical importance of adhering to traffic laws and the serious consequences of endangering public safety on the roadways.
