Drivers across the United Kingdom are being strongly advised to regularly inspect their vehicle tyre pressure as the ongoing petrol and diesel price crisis continues to impact household budgets. Expert Advice on Tyre Maintenance
Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at Carwow, emphasized the importance of proper tyre inflation. "Underinflated tyres significantly increase rolling resistance, forcing your engine to work much harder to maintain performance," he explained. Howard Cox, founder of the FairFuelUK campaign, joined the calls for governmental support. "Numerous nations worldwide, including France, India, and Italy, are recognizing the economic wisdom of assisting drivers as fuel costs spiral out of control," he noted.
Cox accused the government of maintaining plans to implement a 5p fuel duty increase in the upcoming autumn Budget. He proposed comprehensive solutions:

- Implement an immediate reduction in fuel duty rates
- Eliminate VAT charges on fuel purchases
- Establish a PumpWatch regulatory body with legislative authority to ensure transparent and fair pricing at petrol stations
These measures, Cox argued, would provide substantial benefits to both the national economy and small businesses struggling with transportation costs. The combination of proper vehicle maintenance by individual drivers and policy changes at the governmental level could help mitigate the impact of the ongoing fuel price crisis on UK motorists.
