The family of a grandmother who died in a motorway collision over the weekend has described themselves as "incredibly lucky" to have known her. Emergency services attended a three-vehicle crash on the M40 between junctions 16 and 15 shortly before 11pm on Sunday (June 21).
Victim identified as 68-year-old Anne Anderson
Tragically, 68-year-old Anne Anderson, who was travelling as a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. In a heartfelt tribute, her family stated: "The crash has devastated our small and close-knit family. We lost Anne, who was someone who was adored by us all. She was an amazing mum to her three children, a devoted wife, sister and a beloved grandma who brought so many smiles to the faces of her loving grandchildren."
Family tribute: 'She gave everything to our family'
The family continued: "She gave everything to our family, and, even in these darkest of days, we feel incredibly lucky to have had Anne in our lives. She will forever be remembered as someone who loved deeply, lived selflessly and brought happiness and joy to us all." The family also asked for privacy as they come to terms with the loss.
Stepson hospitalised with significant injuries
The family added: "As a family, we are also pulling together to support Anne's stepson, who was also in the car, and is currently in the hospital, dealing not only with the loss of Anne but also with significant injuries. We would like to thank the police for their ongoing support and ask that we are given the space and privacy to come to terms with this tragic loss."
Man arrested and released on bail
Warwickshire Police confirmed a man arrested following the incident has since been released on bail while enquiries into the collision continue. A witness appeal was issued earlier this week. A police spokesperson stated: "Were you driving along the southbound carriageway of the M40 between Henley and Warwick around 11pm last night? Did you witness a collision involving three vehicles?"
"Enquiries are ongoing and we're asking anyone with dashcam footage, who witnessed the collision or who has information that can help to get in touch. Please quote incident number 472 of June 21."
