The Midlands is preparing for another bout of wintry weather this weekend, with forecasters predicting fresh snowfall across parts of the region on Sunday, January 11.
Fresh Flurries Forecast for Sunday Morning
Following a week of disruptive snow and ice, there is to be little respite for residents. Weather modelling from WX Charts, which uses Metdesk data, indicates new snow will arrive on Sunday morning. Birmingham and the Black Country are forecast to see around 0.6cm of snow at 9am. Further north in Staffordshire, the town of Stafford could receive a 1cm covering.
However, the area expected to be hardest hit is Cheadle, near Stoke-on-Trent, where predictions suggest up to 3.1cm of snow could accumulate. This fresh fall follows multiple days of travel disruption across the region this week, with Birmingham and the surrounding areas particularly affected.
Met Office Warnings Remain in Force
The Met Office has maintained a series of weather alerts for the Midlands since the start of January. An active yellow warning for ice, covering the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, and Warwickshire, is currently in place and is valid until 12pm on Saturday, January 10.
A spokesperson for the national forecaster outlined the outlook for Saturday, stating: "Some wintry showers for parts of eastern England and Scotland. Dry with variable cloud elsewhere with frost inland unlikely to clear during the day. Much lighter winds than of late."
National Outlook: Unsettled and Turning Milder
Looking further ahead, the Met Office indicated that changeable conditions will continue. Their outlook from Sunday to Tuesday states: "Further wet and windy weather moving east through Sunday, with some hill snow in the north. Can also be windy here. Milder for all by Monday and into Tuesday."
Separate weather alerts for snow and ice remain active for Saturday and Sunday across northern England and Scotland. The continued cold snap has already triggered further Cold Weather Payments in the coldest parts of the Midlands, providing financial support to eligible residents.
Authorities are urging people across the West Midlands and Staffordshire to stay updated on the latest forecasts and travel advice before venturing out over the weekend.
