Ice Warning After Multiple Crashes at Warwickshire Beauty Spot
Ice warning after crashes at Burton Dassett Hills

Visitors to popular beauty spots in Warwickshire are being urged to exercise extreme caution this weekend after a series of crashes caused by treacherous icy conditions.

Multiple Incidents at Country Park

The warning comes after multiple accidents were reported at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park on Friday, 2nd January. A spokesperson for the park explicitly advised against driving on the hilly terrain, stating: “Please don't attempt to drive up the hill in these icy conditions, there have already been multiple accidents.”

This alert was echoed by Coombe Abbey Park, located just outside Coventry, which also warned visitors about persistent ice on the ground despite the sunny weather.

Freezing Temperatures Grip the Region

The hazardous conditions follow a sharp plunge in temperatures, with snow and ice covering large parts of the Midlands. The Met Office has indicated that temperatures on Saturday, 3rd January, will struggle to rise above 2°C.

An added icy breeze will make it feel significantly colder, and further wintry showers, including snow, are possible, particularly across Warwickshire.

Busy Weekend Expected at Beauty Spots

Authorities are concerned that the combination of dangerous conditions and high visitor numbers could lead to further incidents. This weekend marks the last before schools reopen and many people return to work on Monday, likely drawing crowds to scenic areas.

Coombe Abbey Park's social media message captured the dual nature of the day: “It's a lovely sunny winter’s day... A wonderful way to spend the last Friday of the Christmas school holidays, but please be careful if visiting as some areas of the park are still very icy.”

Residents and day-trippers are strongly advised to check local conditions, travel with care, and heed all safety warnings from park authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable final weekend of the festive break.
