M6 Toll Driver Sentenced to Prison for Reckless Wrong-Way Driving Incident
A motorist from Tamworth has been handed a custodial sentence after executing a perilous U-turn on the M6 Toll and proceeding to drive in the incorrect direction along the motorway. Jordan Sneddon, aged 28, admitted to driving a motor vehicle dangerously during a hearing at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, February 16.
Chaotic Police Pursuit Through Staffordshire
The alarming sequence of events unfolded in August of the previous year when authorities received reports of a black MG performing a U-turn at the toll payment area before heading the wrong way back down the carriageway. Police officers attempted to intercept the vehicle on nearby Pool Lane, but Sneddon failed to stop, initiating a dramatic chase.
The pursuit traversed through Burntwood and Lichfield, with Sneddon accelerating to speeds of 90mph in a designated 30mph zone. His reckless driving continued as he ran a red light and collided with a roundabout, causing the car to become airborne due to the impact.
Arrest and Legal Consequences
The vehicle eventually came to a halt on the A51 towards Rugeley, incapacitated by the extensive damage it had sustained. Officers promptly arrested Sneddon at the scene. In addition to the prison sentence of one year and two months, the court imposed a driving disqualification of two years, extended by seven months, and mandated an extended re-test.
Sneddon was also convicted for failing to provide a specimen for analysis, compounding the severity of his offenses. PC Mark Boyles of Staffordshire Police commented on the case, stating, "Sneddon's driving was incredibly reckless and could have easily resulted in someone being seriously or fatally injured. I'm pleased that we were able to resolve this incident safely and prevent potential injury to both Sneddon and other road users."
Police Statement on the Incident
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police elaborated, "A driver who went the wrong way on the M6 Toll and drove triple the speed limit has been jailed. In August last year, we were called to the M6 Toll when the driver of a black MG turned around at the pay area and started driving the wrong way back down the carriageway. That driver was Sneddon."
The spokesperson continued, "Our road crime team then spotted him driving on Pool Lane, where Sneddon failed to stop and drove off at excessive speed. As he joined the A51 towards Rugeley, the vehicle came to a stop due to the extensive damage it had sustained. Officers immediately moved in and arrested Sneddon."
This case underscores the grave dangers associated with dangerous driving on major roadways, highlighting the swift legal repercussions for such hazardous behavior.
