Police are investigating after a 63-year-old man was killed in a road collision in Coventry on Saturday night.

Emergency Response and Fatal Incident

West Midlands Police were called to Clayton Road in the Coundon area shortly after 8.00pm on Saturday, 10 January. The call came from ambulance crews who were first on the scene.

Paramedics discovered the male victim in a serious condition and provided emergency treatment. Despite their efforts, the 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the location.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Officers swiftly arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the incident. He was detained on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and drink-driving.

The suspect remains in police custody for questioning as detectives work to establish the precise sequence of events.

The investigation is in its early stages, with officers conducting door-to-door enquiries and scouring local CCTV footage in Coundon.

Forensic investigators were present at the scene throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning, meticulously gathering evidence.

The collision occurred during a period of severe weather, with the Met Office having issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for the Coventry region. Police say they are examining all potential factors, including weather conditions, as part of their investigation.
