MP Demands Action on Midlands' Most Dangerous Junction After Weekly Crashes
The most dangerous junction in the Midlands has been identified as the Llynclys Crossroads on the A483 in Shropshire, with crashes occurring on an almost weekly basis. Liberal Democrat MP Helen Morgan is demanding urgent Government action to address this notorious 'death trap' road, which was previously named the most dangerous in the region by National Highways.
Urgent Calls for Safety Measures
Helen Morgan has written to Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander, urging funding for critical safety measures at the junction. She emphasized that the Government now has an opportunity to provide the safety upgrades that local communities desperately need. While a bypass is considered highly unlikely, plans developed by National Highways represent the best way forward for improving safety in the area.
Shocking Incidents and Local Concerns
CCTV footage from the nearby White Lion pub has captured multiple horrific crashes, including two within just two hours and incidents where toddlers had to be dragged to safety. Pub landlord Steve Sant reported that staff regularly witness crashes and have been forced to tend to casualties before emergency services arrive.
Local headteacher Celine Keleher from Bryn Offa Primary School expressed grave concerns, stating that the safety of children, families, and staff must always come first. Pupils regularly cross the junction to catch buses to secondary school, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
Background and Regional Impact
This junction was named the most dangerous in the Midlands by National Highways following a series of severe accidents. The ongoing issues at Llynclys Crossroads underscore broader road safety challenges in the region, with MP Helen Morgan leading the charge for immediate improvements to prevent further tragedies.
