Despite Heartlands Hospital being around a mile away, the patient was conveyed under emergency driving conditions, with blue lights and sirens, to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak for further care.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the details, stating, "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Alum Rock Road, Birmingham at 12.30pm and sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, crews found a man, who they treated for potentially serious injuries. He was then conveyed under emergency driving conditions to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."

The collision has caused significant disruption to local bus services. National Express West Midlands announced that its number 14 buses are being diverted in both directions due to the incident. The diversion route includes Cotterills Lane and Belchers Lane, with the company apologising for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
