Two Drivers Hospitalized Following Serious Collision in Nechells
A significant road traffic incident in Birmingham has left two drivers requiring hospital treatment, with one suffering serious injuries. The collision occurred at the junction of Rupert Street and Avenue Road in the Nechells area at approximately 3:30 PM on Monday, March 30.
Details of the Incident and Vehicle Involvement
The crash involved a silver Honda and a white Volkswagen. Emergency services, including two ambulances and a paramedic officer from the West Midlands Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the scene at 3:26 PM following reports of the collision.
Upon arrival, crews discovered two male patients. The driver of the Honda, a man in his 70s, sustained potentially serious injuries and was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he remains under medical care.
The driver of the Volkswagen, aged 19, was also taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be as severe. He was treated at Heartlands Hospital.
Police Investigation and Road Closure
In response to the incident, Rupert Street was closed to traffic for several hours to allow for thorough police investigations. West Midlands Police have launched an appeal for witnesses and information to assist their inquiries.
A police spokesperson stated: "We're appealing for information and witnesses after a man was badly hurt in a collision in Nechells. Specialist officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are carrying out a number of enquiries and working to establish the exact circumstances around what happened."
