Woman in Serious Condition After Lorry Collision on Alcester Road, Moseley
Serious Lorry Collision in Moseley Closes Alcester Road

A pedestrian has sustained serious injuries following a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on a busy Birmingham road this afternoon.

Emergency Response to Serious Incident

The incident occurred at the junction of Alcester Road and St Mary’s Row in Moseley shortly before 3pm on Monday, January 19. All three emergency services were called to the scene at 2.52pm after reports of a collision between a lorry and a woman who was walking.

West Midlands Ambulance Service deployed significant resources, including an ambulance, two paramedic officers, and the service's Critical Care Car. Upon arrival, crews found the woman in what was described as a 'serious condition'. They immediately began administering specialist trauma care at the roadside before transporting her under emergency blue light conditions to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Selly Oak, a major trauma centre.

Major Road Closure and Travel Disruption

West Midlands Police confirmed they are dealing with a 'serious collision' and have implemented a full road closure as a result. Alcester Road is shut in both directions between the junctions with St Mary's Row and Reddings Road. Motorists are being strongly advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while investigations and recovery work take place.

The closure has caused significant disruption to local bus services. National Express West Midlands confirmed that its services 35 and 50 are being diverted in both directions. The diversion route is via Queensbridge Road, Russell Road, and Salisbury Road. The company has apologised for any disruption to passengers' journeys.

Ongoing Investigation and Updates

Traffic information service Inrix has listed the A453 Alcester Road as closed in both directions due to the serious crash. West Midlands Fire Service also attended the incident but has referred all further enquiries to the police, who are leading the investigation.

The condition of the woman remains serious at this time. The road closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while police collision investigators examine the scene. Commuters and residents are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and follow live traffic updates for the latest information.
