Weather maps have revealed that two counties in England are set to experience snowfall in the coming weeks, while the West Midlands region will escape the wintery conditions.
Snowfall Predictions for Northern Counties
According to the latest forecasts from WX Charts, Cumbria and Northumberland could see a powdering of snow on Thursday, March 5. The weather maps turned white during the first week of May, indicating the arrival of snow, with the wintery weather potentially starting at 6pm that day.
A maximum of 2.9cm (1.1 inches) of snow is forecast to fall over the town of Alston in the Northern Pennines. Additionally, 2.7cm (1 inch) is predicted near the Scottish border in Cumberland, and an extra 0.8cm could accumulate over the Lake District area.
West Midlands to See Rain Instead
In contrast, the rest of England, including the West Midlands region, is expected to avoid snowfall on that day. Instead, Birmingham is predicted to experience showers measuring 2.2mm per hour, according to the weather models.
The Met Office's long-range forecast from March 3 to 12 suggests that much of this period will be dominated by high pressure, especially towards the south or southeast of the UK. This will result in plenty of dry weather with variable cloud amounts and some sunshine, particularly in southern areas, though fog may occur overnight.
However, frontal systems are likely to affect the north and west of the UK at times, potentially bringing rain, strong winds, and a little snow to high ground in the north. Temperatures are expected to be near or above normal, with patchy overnight frost still possible in some areas.
