Supermarket Car Park Time Limits: Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's
Supermarket Car Park Time Limits: Full List for Drivers

Car park time limits for Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsbury's have been confirmed as drivers risk falling foul of the rules. The Traffic Management Act 2004 allows local authorities to control parking enforcement on yellow lines, resident parking, public car parks, and on-street parking.

Penalty Charge Notices

A Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) may be issued and enforced through the civil justice system, rather than the criminal justice system. A fine may be either £70 or £50, depending on the impact of the offence.

Tesco's Parking Policy

Tesco said: “Free parking is available in most stores, but time is limited to a maximum stay, depending on where the store is. Where there is a maximum parking time, our car parks have signs which clearly display the terms and conditions of using the car park, including the maximum stay time. This time limit should also be shown on a sign at the entrance.”

Morrisons' Parking Policy

Morrisons added: “Yes. If there is a charge for parking at your local store and you go over the allocated time, you will receive a parking charge notice. The cost and time to pay can vary depending on who the charge has come from.”

Sainsbury's Parking Policy

Sainsbury's added: "Our customers are welcome to park in most of our car parks for up to 2 hours completely free of charge. But if you're not sure, don't worry, each store has clear signs displayed with any extensions or restrictions. Need details on which of our stores have electric charging points? Just head over to stores.sainsburys.co.uk for everything you need to know."

Asda's Parking Policy

Asda added: "Parking is free at most of our stores, but some locations may be Pay and Display. Details of this will be displayed on the signage in the store car park. Most car parks also have a maximum stay limit, which will be displayed within the car park. Our car parks are operated by Horizon and Parkingeye who may issue a parking charge if customers do not follow the terms & conditions. If you have any questions, please speak with the parking operator directly to assist you as quickly as possible. If you need help with car parks operated by Horizon and Parkingeye, call our Customer Service team, we may be able to support you. However, if you need help from any other company you will need to speak to them directly."
