Major UK Car Recall: 10 Models from Peugeot to Vauxhall Affected by Safety Issue
A significant vehicle recall has been announced across the United Kingdom, impacting approximately 44,000 cars from popular brands including Peugeot, Vauxhall, and Citroen. The recall, initiated by automotive giant Stellantis, addresses a critical safety concern related to the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engines installed in vehicles manufactured between 2023 and 2026.
Safety Defect Details
The identified issue involves a potential contact between the engine's gasoline particulate filter (GPF) pipe and the starter-generator protection cap. This contact could allow water to infiltrate the engine bay under wet conditions, leading to electrical arcing. In rare instances, this may cause overheating or even pose a fire risk within the engine compartment.
Stellantis has issued a voluntary recall to rectify this defect, emphasizing their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. The company stated that some vehicles may have been assembled with insufficient clearance between these components, increasing the likelihood of contact and subsequent water ingress.
Affected Brands and Models
The recall encompasses a range of Stellantis brands, with specific models identified in official notices. While Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Jeep are reportedly included in the global remedial action, they have not yet appeared in UK-specific recall lists. The confirmed models and their approximate recall numbers in the UK are as follows:
- 1,694 Citroën C3
- 2,391 Citroën C3 Aircross
- 937 Citroën C4
- 218 Citroën C4 X
- 132 DS 3 Crossback
- 13,345 Peugeot 208
- 5,771 Peugeot 2008
- 1,888 Vauxhall Corsa
- 2,057 Vauxhall Frontera
- 534 Vauxhall Mokka
What Drivers Need to Do
Owners of the affected models are urged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall. This can be done by locating the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), typically found on the windscreen, inside the driver's door, or on the V5C logbook. Entering this number on the manufacturer's official website will confirm whether the car requires service.
Stellantis is offering a complimentary repair service to address the issue, which is estimated to take approximately 30 minutes per vehicle. This fix aims to ensure proper clearance between the GPF pipe and the starter-generator protection cap, thereby eliminating the potential safety hazard.
This recall underscores the importance of proactive vehicle maintenance and manufacturer accountability in addressing safety defects promptly. Drivers are advised to act swiftly to schedule the necessary repairs and ensure their vehicles remain safe for road use.
