Great British Rail Sale: Commuters Can Save Over 50% on Tickets
Rail Sale Offers Over 50% Off Train Tickets

Train passengers across Britain are set for a major boost to their wallets as the Great British Rail Sale returns, offering staggering discounts of more than 50% on countless journeys.

Huge Savings on Key Routes

The popular sale, now in its fourth year, launched today, Monday 6th January 2026, and will run until Sunday 12th January. During this booking window, travellers can secure massively reduced advance and off-peak tickets for trips scheduled between 13th January and 25th March 2026.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander championed the initiative, stating it aligns with the government's vision for a publicly-owned railway. "We all want to see cheaper rail travel," Alexander said. "Whether you're planning a half-term getaway, or visiting friends or family, this sale offers huge reductions. It's all part of our plans to build a railway owned by the public, that works for the public."

Examples of Dramatic Price Cuts

The scale of the savings is significant, with many fares literally halved. Key examples highlighted include:

  • A journey from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street falling from £14.00 to just £7.00.
  • Trips from Nottingham to London Terminals dropping from £46.00 to £23.00.
  • Fares from Sheffield to London Terminals reduced from £51.00 to £25.50.
  • The cost of travelling from Ashford International to Ramsgate is cut from £5.40 to £2.70.
  • A ticket from St Pancras to Canterbury will cost £8.10, down from £16.20.

Building on Past Success

This marks the fourth consecutive year of the sale, which has proven a reliable way for the public to cut travel costs. Last year's event saved passengers an average of around £8 per journey, providing welcome relief during the ongoing cost of living pressures.

Commuters and leisure travellers are urged to act quickly to secure the best deals. The full list of discounted routes and prices is available on the National Rail website, where bookings can be made directly.

With the sale period covering just one week, this limited-time promotion represents a prime opportunity for planning affordable travel well into the spring.
