A North West marketing agency has taken creativity on the road by converting a Hummer H2 into a mobile DJ booth and marketing hub, with crucial backing from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II.
From Pandemic Setback to Creative Powerhouse
Lewis Ellis founded the marketing agency Hussel after the pandemic derailed his career and travel company plans. Facing job loss and ineligibility for furlough support, he leveraged his digital expertise to build a business from the ground up. What began with web design and SEO services has flourished into an ambitious agency working with major clients like TGI Fridays, Cats Protection, and Revolution Bars.
The Mobile Disruption Unit Unveiled
The newly secured NPIF II funding has enabled Hussel to realise its vision for a 'Mobile Disruption Unit'. This customised Hummer is far from a standard vehicle; it's a fully-equipped event space featuring a built-in DJ booth, dynamic digital displays, and dedicated areas for live product demonstrations. Designed for maximum impact, the unit can deploy at diverse locations, from bustling city centres to large-scale music festivals, offering brands a unique and engaging platform.
Ellis explained the driving force behind the project: "This whole journey started because I had to survive... But I always wanted to be known for doing something different. Hussel is built around that idea - it's not just another agency. We bring energy, personality, and a bit of madness to everything we do. The Mobile Disruption Unit is the epitome of exactly that."
Driving Growth and Regional Investment
The investment, secured through the Smaller Loans portion of NPIF II managed by GC Business Finance & River Capital, has been met with enthusiasm from the funders. Alison Darkes, Investment Manager at GC Business Finance, praised Ellis's resilience and the project's creativity, noting the unit's potential for helping brands connect with audiences in fresh ways.
Sue Barnard, Senior Investment Manager at the British Business Bank, highlighted the wider impact, stating: "This round of funding will help Hussel create jobs and increase its revenue, which is a key goal of NPIF II." The project stands as a testament to the fund's mission of supporting innovative northern businesses poised for growth.
