A major UK energy company has collapsed into administration, resulting in the immediate loss of hundreds of jobs across its Welsh operations.
Administrators Appointed as Trading Ceases
Consumer Energy Solutions (CES), with offices in Swansea and Treorchy, informed staff on Friday, 9 January 2026 that it could no longer continue to trade. The firm, which was founded around a decade ago, appointed administrators from KR8 Advisory Limited on the same day.
James Saunders and Michael Lennon of KR8 Advisory were named as Joint Administrators. A formal notice confirmed the company had "ceased trading with immediate effect." The administration involves CES only and does not affect any other companies within the wider City Energy Group.
Scale of the Job Losses and Impact
The collapse has put 295 employees at risk across the two Welsh sites. The administrators are now responsible for supporting those impacted by the redundancies.
The roles facing the axe are varied and include:
- Sales advisors
- Project planners
- Staff in heating and insulation departments
In a devastating blow for both workers and customers, the company also confirmed it will not be able to carry out any further work for clients. This includes any planned installations, remedial works, repairs, or the resolution of existing complaints.
Advice for Affected Customers
Customers who have had installations completed by CES and are now experiencing problems are being directed to contact their insurance-backed guarantee providers for advice and next steps.
The Joint Administrators stated they will be contacting creditors and employees directly to outline the process for claims. They advised that affected parties do not need to take any immediate action.
This sudden collapse marks a significant failure in the sector, leaving a substantial workforce in Wales seeking new employment and raising questions for customers left with incomplete or potentially faulty energy efficiency installations.
